Throughout 1980 and the growing nationalism had threaten to

history people have constantly killed others for minimum reason to no reason.
The genocide in Bosnia, also known as Bosnia-Herzegovina, started in 1992 and
lasted until 1995 and it involved the massacre of the Bosnians by the Serbs. Bosnia
is made up of three ethnicities, the Bosnians made up of forty-five percent of
the population, the Serbs made up of thirty-three percent of the population,
and the Croatians were the remaining six percent. In April 1992 the Serbs were
for control over Bosnia. At the time Yugoslavia was a country which was brought
together by Serbs, Croatians, Bosnians, Albanians and Slovenes. Yugoslavia was then
falling apart and by 1992 Bosnia declared independence. The Serbs then began a
military campaign to remove the Bosnians from the area.  This tragedy was one of the worst acts of
genocide since the Nazi regime’s destruction of the European Jews during World
War II. To understand this terrible crisis, take a look back at the situation
before this conflict.

genocide had started in the year of 1992 and Bosnia’s situation beforehand was
with no independence of its own. Bosnia was apart of a Turkish empire until
1878 and then the First World War broke out. After the war Bosnia was united
with Yugoslavia which was ruled by most Serbs. Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito
had died in 1980 and the growing nationalism had threaten to split up the
union.  The leader of Bosnia’s government
was Alija Izetbegovic and he called for independence for Bosnia from Yugoslavia
in 1992. In April the Serbs were set out to Bosnian territory, removing
Bosnians by surrounding the capital city which was Sarajevo. The civil war,
also known as the Bosnian War had begun in 1992-1995. Bosnia showed efforts in
giving peace to the war but when failed in 1993 another war broke out. This
time it was against the Bosnians and the Croatians. After a year the U.S
creates a Bosnian-Croatians federation. On November 21, 1995 the Bosnian President
Alija Izetbegovic, the Serbian president Lobodan Milosevic, and the Croatian president
Franjo Tudjmanall agreed to the Daytona peace deal. This war resulted in over
100,000 deaths which consisted of mostly Bosnians.

Today, 20
years later Bosnia still is recovering from the horrifying events. The war succeeded
in separating the country’s three main people, Serbs, Croats and Muslims.
Bosnia has its independence but is receiving guidance from all three presidents
who are representing the Bosnians, Croatians, and Serbians. Schools have been
segregated and children now are growing up more isolated from the other ethnic
groups. There have been signs of protests coming from the Bosnian youth
demanding a better life and a better economic system. About two years ago in
2016 the Serbian leader, Radovan Karadzic was convicted for his role in the
genocide. Ratko Mladic, former commander for the Bosnians and Serbs was sentenced
life of imprisonment for his actions during the genocide and for his crimes
against humanity during the time period 1992-1995. Also during Bosnia’s economic
recovery they didn’t take to heart creating a new foundation for economic
