Short Ø Gender. Ø Physically or mentally unstable. Ø

Short time ago, whole nation was shouting ‘justice for
Zainab’. Zainab Amin , 6years old little and innocent soul
kidnapped and few days later her body was found from garbage
dump. Later was revealed that she had been raped and murdered.
This whole incident took me back few years back when I used
to watch a drama serial ‘khushi ek roag’. Roag tells the
story of child sexual abuse and how this incidence changes
life of a girl who was sexually abused and affect her entire
family. At that time I realized Zainab is more in this
crucial world but what about those little souls who survives
after this torcher and dies every single day. Soon after I
decided to write something about the challenges faced by the
survivals of child sexual abuse in my issue paper and scoop
out social, cultural, and emotional consequences of child sexual
abuse. BODY v DEFINITION: According to NCTSN
(2009), “Child sexual abuse is any interaction between a child and an
adult (or another child) in which the child is used for the sexual
stimulation of the perpetrator or an observer.” v PREVALENCE: Ø The prevalence of child sexual abuse is difficult to determine because it is often not reported. Ø 62,939 cases of child sexual abused were reported in 2012. Ø
Estimated, that 73 million boys and 150 million girls under
the age of 18 years had experienced sexual violence.(WHO, 2002).
Ø According to a 2003 National Institute of Justice
report, 3 out of 4 adolescents who have been sexually assaulted
were victimized by someone they knew well. v CHILD MORE VULNERABLE TO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE: Ø Gender. Ø Physically or mentally unstable. Ø Socio-economic status. Ø Family structure. Ø Illiteracy. Ø Children in foster care, adopted children or step children. v IMPACT ON PHYSICAL HEALTH: Ø Urinary tract infections. Ø Genital irritation. Ø Sexually transmitted disease. v IMPACT ON PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH: Ø
Emotional effect- substance abuse, statements that their bodies
are dirty, powerlessness, anxiety, betrayed, anger,
self-destructive behavior. v IMPACT ON SOCIAL LIFE: Ø Academic problem. Ø Teen pregnancy. Ø Sexual behavior. v GOVERNMENT POLICIES/PROTOCOL: Ø Law against child sexual abuse differ from country to country. Ø
In Pakistan, according to bill passed in National assembly that
whoever seduce a child shall be punish not less than 1year.
Ø Sahil is the only organization in Pakistan that works
exclusively on the issue of child sexual abuse and
exploitation. CONCLUSION v RECOMMENDATIONS: Ø Parents should teach their children about good and bad touches. Ø Strict laws should be made. Ø Take child sexual abuse seriously. Ø Media should spread awareness about child sexual abuse. Ø More NGO’s and organizations should work on the issue of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
