Sediment is sand and
other minerals that settle themselves at the bottom of liquids.  Sediment also is made up of tiny rocks or
pebbles. Sediment settles at the bottom of liquids by natural processes such as
nature.  The sediments can be carried by
wind, water or erosion.

2.
What is chemical weathering? In your response,
include the following terms: biochemical and precipitate. (1 point)

Chemical weathering
happens when wind or water or other natural processes change and shape the
rocks.  They change the rock by changing what
the rock is composed of. Biochemical weathering happens when plants such as
moss and other things help the disintegration of the rocks.

3.
What is mechanical weathering? In your response,
include the following terms: detrital and clastic. (1 point)

Mechanical weathering
happens when the larger rocks break off into smaller rocks. As the larger rocks
break off into smaller rocks they create smaller rocks or sometimes sand that
are perfect for detrital and clastic rocks to form.  Both of these rocks are responsible for the
composition of many other rocks.

4.
How do clastic sedimentary rocks form? In your
response, include the following terms: lithification, deposition, erosion, and
compaction. (1 point)

Clastic sedimentary
rocks form by the putting together other rocks that have been loosened by
erosion. These tiny rocks come together to form their own rock.  These pieces or rocks travel into bodies of
water like lagoons etc.  Once the rocks
are inside the water the sediments go through deposition.  These sediments become compacted and go
through the process of lithification.  Lithification
is the start of the formation of sedimentary rock.

5.
What are rock strata? What are some things that
make strata unique? (1 point)

Rock strata are layers
of sedimentary rocks that are stacked together. They look like stacks of
different colored rocks.  Rock strata is
unique because you can distinctly see the different layers of the sedimentary
rock. They are very visible to the human eye.
