For (Brain Hemispheres). The right side of the brain

For our project we decided to research if a person’s body is more right dominant or left dominant. We are going to use our classmates as test subjects and test which side for their body is more dominant. We are going to have the subjects throw a ball, write their name, and kick a ball. Those are only a few examples of the many tests we are going to conduct. Depending on which side you use more (left or right) will contribute to the finding of your dominant side. By doing these tests we will be finding out how exactly the brain and body work with each other. THE BRAINWhether you realize it or not we use our brains all the time. The brain controls our body and helps us move around in a significant way. There are two hemispheres in the brain, the left and right hemispheres (Fig. 2).  Everybody’s brain is different in how exactly it is connected and patterned. This has an effect on how the body and brain work together. Like we said, the brain is split into two hemispheres (right and left). The right side of the brain is more visual oriented, involved in activities such as visual imagery and face recognition (Brain Hemispheres). It processes information as a whole instead of individually. The left side specializes in language, listening, speaking, and writing. It is involved in the memory for spoken and written messages, and plays a major role in the analysis of information (Brain Hemispheres). The right side of the brain tends to be more dominant in creative activities, while the left side of the brain tends to be more dominant in logical or analytical activities (Brain Hemispheres). They communicate through a nerve bundle called the corpus callosum. The corpus callosum is found above the thalamus and is located under the cortex (Corpus Callosum).  The corpus callosum is a thin strip of tissue and it links the right and left hemispheres together, which allows them to communicate. Both hemispheres have key differences in how they see and process information (Fig. 2). Most of the brain is made up of the cerebrum which is a large soft pasty part of the brain that controls your intelligent functions such as thinking and speaking (The big brain book). Each half of the cerebrum                          HANDS Hands are very useful in your day to day life. You write with them, you cook with them, you draw with them, you can do a lot of things with your hands. But you’re usually more comfortable using one hand over than the other. This is known as laterality. Laterality means you are more dominant with one side of the brain that controls one of two organs like eyes or hands. Handedness, sidedness, and left/right dominance have the same dominance.Like many people, you probably have a prefered dominant hand. If you don’t, you’re ambidextrous. Do you know what ambidextrous means? If not, its the ability to use both your right hand and left hand equally. We don’t know why people are ambidextrous or what makes them ambidextrous. Scientist have said that ambidextrous people don’t have a dominant side of their brain. There are also people who are mixed-handed which means they will use their right hand for some tasks and there left hand for some tasks. There is an unsure number of mixed-handed and ambidextrous people.Although, only 10-15% of the population is left handed, there are theories to why people are. The theories consist of genes, gender, and adjustment. A gene could have been carried from a parent to the child to enhance their chances of being left handed. If a particular version of this gene is inherited, the child may be more likely to be left-handed, depending on reinforcement and other environmental influences (Department of Health & Human Services). However, more recent research suggests it is more likely that lots of different genes ‘add up’ to produce a left-handed person (Department of Health & Human Services). The second theory involves the gender. More boys are left-handed than girls. Researchers think that the hormone testosterone in males has something to do with their handedness. And lastly, people who were originally right handed could have learned how to use their left hand due to injury. Most people in the world are right handed. This means that their left hemisphere is probably more dominant. Just because the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body, doesn’t necessarily mean your left hemisphere is more dominant.
