Effective learning, rated as effective because it is time efficient and relatively easy to perform. If a student craves for higher academic results, he need to use some efficient study techniques. The key to effective studying isn’t cramming or studying longer, but studying smarter. In order to improve our study habits , there are six important areas that we need to focus on: setting goals , rewarding ourselves, time management , taking breaks, collaboration and revising. You start by setting a few smart goals (specific ,measurable ,attainable) for exactly what you want to achieve. Keep in mind that you won’t achieve your daily goals if they are not realistic. Can you actually master three chapters in two hours? Most probably not. You’ll have much better results if you divide large tasks into smaller ones, you could set systematic daily goals so that you would be able to cover everything in your academic studies. This method will keep you much focused on your aim and what you have to do to get there.Secondly, rewarding ourselves. You may find a see of possibilities regarding how you can spend your time,and probably your favorite option isn’t studying. If you have problem studying regularly, allowing yourself a reward when you achieve a specific goal will help. Giving yourself a reward of completing certain assignment will motivate you stick to your schedule. By the time that your routine becomes easier to complete, reduce rewards and slowly try to increase its difficulty level. If you didn’t accomplish what you set out for, don’t go ahead and reward yourself anyway. Try to be honest. If you really earned a reward only then you should get it, so it acts as positive stimulation ,otherwise don’t take it. Thirdly another important element is time management. Successful students schedule specific times throughout the week when they are going to study, creating a day-by-day timetable to plan out all their classes and commitments. Due to statistics (taken in 2007 from Nygen ) students who study sporadically or some days before the exams typically do not perform as well as students who have a study schedule. Even if you’re all caught up with your studies, creating a weekly routine, where you set aside a period of time a few days a week to review your courses, will ensure a higher performance.Fourth element is taking effective breaks . Sometimes we all hit a wall when we are studying or working , but a short break may help you push through. Shutting off your focus also helps your brain access solutions you might not if you’re looking directly at the problem. “That’s actually just the way the brain works If you want it to work, you need to give it a break.” says psychologist Noah (2005, “Human Psychology” book). The fifth element, collaboration. Even if you prefer to work independently, take some time to study with peers and participate in your study groups. That feeling of being not alone and having a support network both inside and outside of your classroom is really important. It will give pleasure ,willpower ,meanwhile you can ask for help when you need.The sixth area that we need to focus on ,revising. Revising lessons regularly is a very important element in succeeding school life. Effective students review what they’ve learned during the week over the weekend. This way they’re well prepared to continue learning new concepts that build upon previous knowledge.All in all ,this techniques are very helpful on improving your study skills. You should develop the habits outlined above and remind yourselves of the big picture benefits that will come from being a good student. This will keep you motivated and you’ll see a major improvement in your academic studies.
