invested six million pounds in street based games to set up to over 1000 doorstep
sports clubs and to try and involve over 118,000 young people, with the purpose

to do so (for example on infrastructure and workforce) but also by encouraging

and activity for customers

•  Helping sport to keep pace with the digital
expectations of customers

•  Putting customers at the heart of what we do,
responding to how they organise their lives and helping the sector to be more
welcoming and inclusive, especially of the groups which are currently
under-represented in sport

•  Helping those who are active now to keep on
continuing, but at a much lower cost to

help them to come up with new ideas in which they can become more sustainable
and self-sufficient

•  Investing more for children and young people
from the age of five to build positive attitudes for sports and activities as a

inactivity because this is where the most gains for the individual and for
society are greatest

they do, and by using the principles of behaviour change to inform them of
the work

A dedicated funding to get more children
and young people active from the ages of five, including a new funding for
those family-based activities and
offering training to at least two teachers in every secondary school in
England to help them better themselves to meet the needs of all children, regardless
of their level of sporting ability.

Key features of the new
strategy are:   

• Communities and the
voluntary sector – they will also work with the local authorities, voluntary
groups and others to allow the broadest possible sporting offer to young people.
Between now and 2017, there will be a budget of over 50 million pounds
available in funds which will be open to the well-run sports clubs (whether
they are connected to a national governing body), voluntary groups and others
to provide an exciting and appealing sporting experience. In total, they will have
invested well over £250m with the community aspects of this strategy.

• Investing in facilities – a
further one hundred and sixty million will be spent on brand new and upgraded
sports facilities, with the already ninety million which already has been
invested by sports England’s places, people,
play programme. This will include funding for the very first time to allow
schools to open their own sporting facilities (three-quarters of all sports
halls and a third of all swimming pools) to be open to the general public.

• Working with the sport’s
governing bodies: which they focus will be on youth – they will in turn ask those
sports governing bodies, where young people are the main contributors, to spend
almost around sixty percent of the
funding on the activities that will promote sport as a habit for life amongst
younger people. They will also ensure that sports are completely focused on
what they will need to achieve, with payment by results – including taking back
the funding from governing bodies that do not accomplish the agreed upon objectives.
The system will be wholly transparent.

• By improving the links with schools
and community sports clubs – they will do this by working with many different sports
which include football and tennis to name a few but there are many other to
establish at least 6,000 partnerships between schools and local sports clubs by
the year 2017 – making it easier for younger people to remain playing sport
once they have finished education. The objective is that every secondary school
and many primary schools will have the links with at least one local club. Further
to that, every county sports partnership
will have a dedicated officer whose job it is to work on making links between
schools and community sports clubs within the local area.


• Building a legacy of
competitive sport at schools – school games allows the basis for competitive
school sport within the districts, schools, county and in turn for creating a
sporting habit for life national levels – with the lottery, public and private sector having already funded of over
£150m which was secured until the year 2015. In addition, PE remains a
compulsory part of the National curriculum.

its solo commitment to Olympic and Paralympic success but has also extended
that ambition to non-Olympian sports where they will support success starting
for the grassroots investment in those sports, and by also sharing UK Sport’s expertise
and knowledge. This strategy shows what they expect of the sector and to also deliver
this vision, and how they will support it by getting there.

that all appropriate departments work very closely
together to allow them to create a more physically active nation, where the children
and young people can enjoy the best sporting opportunities available and people
no matter what age they are and what background they come from can enjoy the
many different benefits that sport and physical activity can bring out, at every
stage in their lives.
